Chelsea Next Manager: 5 Candidates Who Could Take Over at Stamford Bridge

The search for the Chelsea next manager is once again underway after Liam Rosenior was sacked. Rosenoir lost his job following a poor run of form that has left the London club’s Champions League hopes hanging by a thread. The former Hull City manager  lasted less than four months in his role at Stamford Bridge, when he was appointed in January following Enzo Maresca’s departure.

With Calum McFarlane stepping in as interim boss, attention has now shifted to who will take charge permanently. Here is a list of five leading candidates for Chelsea next manager. This article will analyze their strengths, tactical identity, and chances of landing the role.

1. Andoni Iraola

AFC Bournemouth manager Iraola is considered the frontrunner for the Chelsea managerial role. Iraola has been impressive in the Premier League, where he built a competitive and tactically disciplined side. Known for his high-pressing, energetic football, Iraola’s style aligns well with Chelsea’s young and dynamic squad. His ability to maximize player potential and impose a clear identity makes him a strong candidate.

Iraola will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, making him available for Chelsea. However, he is reported to be considering a move back to his home club, Athletic Bilbao, for both family and football reasons.

2. Marco Silva

If Chelsea decide to prioritize experience, Marco Silva could be the ideal choice. Currently coaching Fulham, Silva has built a reputation for consistency and structure in the Premier League. Under his leadership, the Fulham team is well-organized, tactically flexible, and capable of competing against stronger opponents.

Reports suggest that Silva is keenly considered by Chelsea, as the club is looking for an experienced coach following Rosenior’s struggles. Silva has a notable track record, winning trophies in Portugal and Greece years ago. He may feel open to a new challenge at a Champions League club as his contract with Fulham expires this summer.

3. Cesc Fàbregas

Fàbregas is considered a rising star in the football managerial world. His impressive performance with Serie A with Como has gained him recognition as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches. Known for his tactical intelligence, combined with his understanding of Chelsea’s culture, Fàbregas has emerged as a compelling option for Chelsea.

However, appointing Fàbregas would come with risk, given he has only managed one club. But he still remains a strong candidate for Chelsea as the club is expected to consider someone who has a strong connection with fans and players.

4. Filipe Luís

Luis was sacked by Flamengo last month, despite winning several trophies in his 100-game stint at the Brazilian club. However, his sack could be a blessing for Chelsea. The North London side is in desperate need for a manager who has attacking football and tactical innovation qualities.

Luís’s teams are known for being fluid, creative, and adaptable, which make the Brazilian a serious contender for the Chelsea job. However, his lack of European managerial experience may raise concerns. But his rapid rise could make him a bold and exciting appointment.

5. Frank Lampard

Coventry manager Frank Lampard may make a third return to Chelsea after leading the Championship side to Premier League for the first time in 25 years. Lampard would be a popular pick among fans despite his unimpressive results at Chelsea as a coach. However, there are doubts that he would be tempted away from Coventry who are the current Championship title winners.
