Manchester City is considering Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez as a summer transfer target, according to reports from The Athletic. Fernandez, who was recently given a club suspension of two games by now-sacked coach Liam Rosenior, is considered a perfect replacement for Bernardo Silva who will leave City this summer. The Portugal international will depart at the end of his contract following nearly a decade at the Etihad.
Rodri is also yet to sign a new deal that expires at the end of June 2027. In April, City manager Pep Guardiola expressed his optimism that Rodri would renew his contract. But the 29-year-old granted an interview in March where he expressed his desire to return to Spanish football.
However, there are indications that Fernandez is looking elsewhere for his career future. In a recent interview during international duty with Argentina, he said he would “like to live in Spain” amid links with Real Madrid. Fernandez said the capital reminded him of Buenos Aires. He remains contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2032.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old is an early target for City, who are also considering other midfield options including Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.
