As the search continues, here are the top 5 potential candidates for the role.
1. Michael Carrick

Topping the list is current interim Manchester United manager, Michael Carrick. Carrick was handed the interim reins after former manager Ruben Amorim was sacked. The Red Devils struggled under the Portuguese, winning only eight of their opening 20 Premier League games. United also suffered an upset to Grimsby Town in the League Cup with Amorim in charge.
Following the sack, Carrick took charge and significantly improved team’s performance. Under his coaching, United have won seven matches, drawn two and lost once to sit third on the Premier League table. In addition, reports suggest that the United legend has the backing of the team as the next manager. Players like Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are reportedly “blown away” by the 44-year-old gaffer’s approach. With Carrick’s deal with United ending at the end of the season, he is expected to sign a new deal as the team is firmly set to play the Champions League next season.

He also led the Red Devils to a second-place finish at the Europa League in 2021. With United looking inwards, reports suggest he stands a good chance at getting back the role if Carrick is not appointed.
