Paris Saint-Germain star Sharaf Hakimi is set to captain the Morocco 2026 World Cup squad. The Atlas Lions return to the world’s football biggest stage after their success in the 2022 tournament.

Morocco became the first African team to reach the World Cup semi finals under then-manager Walid Regragui, who left his post shortly after the team finished as runner-ups in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Mohamed Ouahbi was appointed as Regragui’s replacement, and the new manager announced a final 26-man Morocco world Cup squad on Monday. Alongside Hakimi, Real Madrid star Brahim Diaz, Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui and Sunderland’s Chemsdine Talbi were named in the squad.
Crystal Palace and Conference League winner Chadi Riad and Stuttgart loanee Bilal El Khannouss also made the list. Africa’s best goalkeeper Yassine Bounou is expected to man the post for the Atlas Lion as they go into the tournament as favorites from the continent to win the World Cup.
Morocco will face Brazil in their opening encounter on June 13 at the MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey, United States. The Atlas Lions will then face Scotland on June 19 at the Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts, before traveling to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, Georgia, on June 24 to take on Haiti.
