Born to Ghana’s football legend, Abedi Pele who is regarded one of the greatest footballers ever produced by the continent, Jordan was raised as football royalty and is expected to follow in his father’s and brother’s footsteps in captaining the national team at football’s grandest tournament.

Abedi Pele captained and inspired the Black stars through multiple international campaigns, including reaching the the final of the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations. His leadership, brilliance, and devotion to the national team cemented his place as one of the most iconic figures in African and global football.

Decades later, his legacies continued through his sons, first André Ayew who has also captained the Black Stars to AFCON and World Cup tournaments. Ayew led Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and became one of the few players in history to captain the Black Stars at football’s biggest stage.

And now, his younger brother, Jordan is set to continue the family tradition of leading Ghana to a World Cup, a milestone that will go down in history as one of the most iconic in Ghanaian sporting excellence and beyond. Jordan is also  just three appearances away from surpassing his elder brother André as Ghana’s most capped player.

Should the former Crystal Palace forward make the Ghana World Cup squad, he will not just place at the summit of Black Stars history for international appearances, he will become a towering symbol of resilience, consistency and greatness for the country.

Jordan Ayew led Ghana to a near-flawless World Cup qualifying campaign following a disastrous 2025 AFCOn campaign which saw Ghana miss out on booking their place at the continental tournament for the first time in decades. Ayew stepped in at a time when he was needed most, using his calmness, clinical finishing and leadership qualities to send the Black Stars to the World Cup.

Ghana is now set to begin its World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on European powerhouses England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
