The Premier League has officially announced an eight-man shortlist for the Player of the Season. Manchester City’s Antoine Semenyo, his teammate Erling Haaland and Manchester United‘s Bruno Fernandes are in the running for the prestigious prize.
Others include Arsenal trio Gabriel Magalhaes, David Raya and Declan Rice, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White. Arsenal dominate the list with three players, who have all been recognised for their pivotal roles as Mikel Arteta’s side chase their first Premier League title in 20 years.
Magalhaes has been the bedrock of the Gunners defence, which have proven to be one of the most solid in European football. Raya won a third consecutive Golden Glove with 18 clean sheets, while Rice
City comes second with attacking duo Semenyo and Haaland, with the latter chasing his third Golden Boot in four years having scored 26 goals this season. Semenyo has been a revelation for City since he joined the club in January. His versatility and immediate impact under Pep Guardiola have earned him a spot among the elite.
United captain Fernandes returned to the spotlight after an outstanding individual campaign. The Portuguese midfielder has registered eight goals and 19 assists. He is on the verge of equalling Thierry Henry’s and Kevin De Bruyne’s all-time assists in a single season record. Fernandes also helped United climb into third place, securing a return to Champions League football.
Gibbs-White earned his second nomination in a row due to his sensational form for Forest this season. He has netted 13 goals and provided four assists to keep Forest clear of the relegation zone. His steller form makes him a World Cup hopeful for the England squad that already has heavy competitions like Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden.
