Bruno Fernandes made history for Manchester United by emerging as the club’s fifth Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year winner. Fernandes has now surpassed the tallies of club legends Cristiano Ronaldo and David de Gea, making him one of the most consistent players in United history.
The Portuguese midfielder has been a catalyst for United’s recent resurgence in the Premier League, tallying 124 chances which is the fourth highest in this season’s Premier League. He has also scored eight goals and provided 19 assists, which put him on the edge of equaling Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. He has two remaining games to equaling Henry’s and De Bruyne’s 20 assists record this season.
Fernandes has consistently been the standout performer since arriving Old Trafford in 2020, winning his first POTY prize under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He also achieved a personal-best 28-goal contributions the following year. In 2024, Fernandes won his second POTY prize after helping United lift the FA Cup trophy under coach Ten Hag. His latest win makes him the second player in United history to win the prestigious individual award for the third time after de Gea.
