Nigeria, Ghana book tickets to women’s U17 World Cup qualifiers final round

Nigeria and Ghana have booked their place in the final round of the 2026 FIFA women’s U17 World Cup qualifiers after dominant wins against Guinea and Liberia respectively on Sunday.

The Flamingoes  thrashed Guinea 11-0 on aggregate in the second round of the qualifiers. Akeem Busari’s side won the first leg 5-0, before thrashing Guinea 6-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring in the ninth minute to set the tone for another one-sided match.

Captain Harmony Chidi doubled Nigeria’s lead with a stunning strike from distance before Queen Joseph made it 3-0  in the 23rd minute. Adegbuyi scored her second goal in the game and Nigeri’a fourth in the 32nd minute while Chidi completed her brace two minutes later. Then substitute Precious Oscar rounded off the scoring in the 70th minute to seal Nigeria’s spot at the final where the Flamingoes face Benin.

Ghana’s Black Maidens were also impressive,  cruising past Liberia with an emphatic 8-0 aggregate victory. The Black Maidens followed a 6-0 triumph in the first leg in Accra with another decisive 2-0 win over Liberia in the second leg in Monrovia. Goals from Seidatu Wahab and Juliana Gyekyewaa, both from expertly taken free-kicks, sealed Ghana’s place in the final where they face a strong Senegal side.

The 1st leg matches will be played on 3-5th July, while the second leg will be played 10-12th July. Four emerging winners from the final will represent Africa at the U17 women’s World Cup later this year.
