Arsenal have officially secured the Premier League title after a 22-year wait. The Gunners became the 2025/26 champions after their closest rival Manchester City drew 1-1 at Bournemouth on Tuesday night, handing Mikel Arteta’s side an unmatchable four points on top of the table.
Eli Junior Kroupi scored a first half goal to give Bournemouth the lead. Erling Haaland scored a late leveller and even that was not enough to keep City in the title race until the final day.
City had some first half chances, with Jeremy Doku’s early effort which forced a save from Djorde Petrovic, while Evanilson missed a chance at the other end. But despite more City pressure, Bournemouth looked mostly likely to win the game but David Brooks missed two golden chances.
The draw means Pep Guardiola’s men’s quest for another back-to-back Premier League title comes to a close, while the Cherries have booked a ticket to the Europa League. It now looks like Guardiola will only take a bow in his final game against Aston Villa on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will be presented with the Premier League trophy after their final game of the season at Crystal Palace on Sunday. It would be Arteta’s second major honour as manager at the Emirates Stadium after winning the FA Cup six years ago.
When was Arsenal last crowned Premier League champions?
Arsenal last won the Premier League title back in the 2003/04 season when Arsene Wenger’s team, now famously known as “the invincibles” went through the whole campaign unbeaten. It was the Gunners’ third title under Wenger and a historic one as they won 26 games and made 12 draws during the season.
Arsenal can make it double with Champions League title
With the Premier League title safely secured, Arsenal are now just one step away from winning the Champions League as the Gunners prepare to face Paris Saint-Germain in the final on May 30. The Gunners currently look unstoppable, after building one of the strongest defensive teams in European football this season.
Adding a Champions League trophy will solidify the 2025/26 season as one of the club’s greatest eras in world football, surpassing even the Invicibles.
