PSG 1-1 Bayern: UCL champions are not giving up the title yet

Paris Saint-Germaine knocked out Bayern Munich to reach the Champions League final for the second time in a row. The PSG vs Bayern game ended in a 1-1 draw, helping the defending champions to set up a final against Arsenal with a 5-4 aggregate.

Ousmane Dembele scored a brilliant early opener from  Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s cross in the area to give PSG the lead. The French champions also proved they could defend, as they successfully warded off Bayern’s lethal attack. Both Harry Kane and Michael Olise were rendered toothless for the most part of the game. Olise’s attempt was easily saved by PSG keeper Matvey Safonov while Kane managed to score a 94th minute goal. But it was already too late for the German champions.

There was also a first-half controversy, where Bayern felt  felt Nuno Mendes should have been sent off for deliberate handball. Mendes had earlier received a booking. But referee Joao Pinheiro gave the foul  to Konrad Laimer for a questionable handball, a decision that left Bayern players and manager, Vincent Kompany fuming.

In another bizarre incident, Joao Neves appeared to clearly handle inside the box after Vitinha’s clearance. But the rules says a player cannot be penalised  for handball if it inadvertently touches him after being fouled by a teammate. Both refereeing decisions fueled Kompany’s outrage at full time.

With the final ticket secured, PSG will look forward to another steller title win after their historic 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in last season’s final. Meanwhile, Arsenal are set to win their first ever Champions League, but they will have to go through the defending champions first in Budapest on May 30. For now, Luis Enrique’s side can enjoy a well deserved celebration.
