Guadiola won 20 trophies during his 10-year spell at City, including two this season, leaving a monumental legacy that will be hard to beat. He also offered an advice to his successor, as he prepared to hand over the keys at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola said: “When the club tell me who it is, of course I will call him. I will tell him, ‘Be yourself and the club will support you unconditionally’. That is the biggest compliment, or the biggest luck that all the managers who have been here have had. You will be protected in the bad moments more than any other club. Be yourself, be free, go with your ideas. Work a lot and everything will be fine.”
Enzo Maresca will inherit a healthy young squad that includes Erling Haaland, Antoine Semenyo, Jeremy Dorku, Marc Guehi, and Rayan Cherki. He will take on a central role as City prepares to reclaim the Premier League title after finishing second behind Arsenal this season.
