Guardiola may leave City this summer, Maresca set to replace him

Pep Guardiola is reportedly set to bring his legendary tenure at Manchester City to an end this summer. He is expected to step down after the final game of the Premier League season.

City have not made any confirmation yet, with sources at the club insisting Guardiola remains their manager on a contract until 2027. However, the  Daily Mail reported that the Catalan coach will bring down the curtain on an Etihad tenure that witnessed him win 20 trophies and established City as one of the world’s greatest football clubs.

City are also preparing for his exit, with reports from The Athletic  suggesting his former assistant Enzo Maresca could be his replacement. Maresca left his role as Chelsea manager in January after reportedly informing the club that he met with City about replacing Guardiola.

Guardiola arrived City at the start of the 2016-17 season, where he finished  the campaign without a trophy for the first time in his career. However, he went on to lead City to six Premier League titles, including an unprecedented four consecutive titles, the Champions League, three FA Cups and five EFL Cups during his 10 years at City.

Under his leadership, City became the only team to reach 100 points in a Premier League season, doing so in 2017-18. The club also set the record for the most goals scored in a campaign, with 106.

City also became the second English team after Manchester United (1998-99) to complete the Treble – winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in the same season (2022-23). Guardiola’s City later became the first team to win the Premier League title in four consecutive seasons.

Guardiola will exit the Etihad Stadium as one of the greatest coaches of all time in world football.
