Hughes has been credited to bringing the Spaniard to English football and reportedly believes that Iraola’s trademark high-pressing, aggressive tactical blueprint is perfectly aligned with Liverpool’s football philosophy.

Iraola became the frontrunner for the job following his impressive spell at Bournemouth, where he guided the Cherries  to an unprecedented sixth-place finish, and secured the club’s historic first-ever European qualification. The Spanish tactician became famous for rebuilding fresh teams after selling off his key players, including star forward Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City and three first-choice defenders for a combined £144.5 million.

His exceptional rebuilding capacity drew interests from top clubs, including Crystal Palace, AC Milan, and Bayer Leverkusen. Reports suggest he might be interested to stay at Anfield as the club prepares for the Champions League after a woeful fifth finish in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are determined to finalise agreement and make a formal announcement for the 2026 World Cup which starts on June 11.
