Tottenham Hotspur secured a spot in the Premier League after a narrow 1-0 win over Everton on Sunday’s final matchday of the 2025/26 season. Spurs needed a point to avoid relegation from the English topflight for the first time since 1977. The win also means West Ham has been relegated to the Championship for the first time in 14 years.

However, Roberto de Zerbi’s side got all three points with Joao Palhinha’s goal in the 43rd minute which proved decisive. Palhinha’s first header hit the post but his rebound crossed the finish line despite Everton striker Thierno Barry’s efforts to stop the goal.
Everton substitute Tyrique George caused a moment of tension for Spurs in the dying minutes of the game after his effort forced a brilliant save from goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
The final whistle sent wild celebrations from De Zerbi, and Spurs team and supporters after an injury-ridden, toxic season that saw the former Europa League champions go through three managers to survive in the Premier League.
West Ham relegated despite emphatic win over Leeds
West Ham beat Leeds United 3-0 on the final day of the 2025/26 season but it was not enough keep the Hammers in the Premier League. The Hammers needed the win and hoped for Tottenham lost to Everton to continue their stay at the English topflight.

After a poor first-half start, West Ham took the lead in the 67th minute when Taty Castellano headed in Jarrod Bowen’s corner at the back post. Bowen made it 2-0 after he drove a neat, angled finish into the far corner with 11 minutes remaining. Substitute Callum Wilson scored a third at stoppage time but the Hammers needed Everton to turn things around at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
However, Roberto De Zerbi’s men held on to their 1-0 lead to take the final qualification spot on the Premier League table and end West Ham’s 14-year stay in the league. The result means West Ham will play Championship football for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
