Manchester United have announced Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent head coach. Carrick, who was previously appointed on interim basis in January, signed a two-year contract for the permanent role with the club.

The United legend took over from Rubem Amorim who led the team to the seventh place in the Premier league, to a guaranteed third place finish and a qualification to the Champions League next season. Carrick won 11 of his 16 matches in charge and has been named on a six-man shortlist for the Premier League’s manager of the season award.
“From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride,” said Carrick.
“Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.”
The 44-year-old was endorsed by the club’s hierarchy, director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada, to owner Sir Jim Radcliff following an impressive interim stint with the United team. Prior to his appointment, United was in chaos, with poor results and disagreements over the Amorim’s tactics and formation.
Carrick, who also had a three-game stint as United’s interim boss after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal in 2021, brought back stability to the team both on and off the pitch. His playing career was also impressive, winning five Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup among other honours before joining Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff in 2018.

Meanwhile, Carrick’s coaching team has not been confirmed yet, with United till finalising paperwork. However, Steve Holland and Jonathan Woodgate are expected to continue their roles at the club alongside Carrick.
