Lamine Yamal will wear the No.19 shirt at his first World Cup as Spain has confirmed the squad numbers at the global football tournament co-hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico. La Roja are favorites to win the World Cup title and their newly announced squad numbers have sparked conversations on social media.

Spain handed the iconic No. 9 shirt to midfielder Gavi, which sparked reactions from fans. Traditionally associated with centre-forwards, Fernando Torres and Alvaro Morata are some of the players that have won the shirt. Some supporters questioned why it should be given to a midfielder as country prepares to win its second World Cup title,
Meanwhile, Dani Olmo has been given the No.10 shirt, while Nico Williams will wear No.17 and Mikel Oyarzabal No.21. In goal, David Raya takes the No.1 jersey, with Unai Simon assigned No.23.
Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente expressed confidence in his squad but warned that they should be cautious despite being favorites alongside France and England.
“We have to be cautious, despite being favourites,” De la Fuente told reporters. “We have to go with our feet on the ground. I don’t shy away, we are favourites, but we’re equally as favourites as England or France.”
Spain open their World Cup campaign against debutants Cape Verde on 15 June. Then the European champions face Saudi Arabia on 21 June and Uruguay on 26 June in Group H.
