The Black Stars will make their fifth appearance at the global football event. Ghana became the second African nation after Cameroon to make it to the quarter-finals in the 2010 World Cup hosted by South Africa. The Black Stars narrowly missed out on the semi-final after they were eliminated following a dramatic penalty shootout against Uruguay.

Meanwhile,  Jordan Ayew will captain the Black Stars at the 2026 World Cup, following in the footsteps of his iconic father Abedi Pele and older brother Dede Ayew. Both captained the Black Stars to both previous World Cups and continental tournaments.  34-year-old Jordan also makes history as Ghana’s most capped player with 133 appearances.

Ghana will be without Tottenham Hotspurs’ Mohammed Kudus, who is currently sidelined with a season-ending injury. Alexander Djiku is also injured and left out of the squad.

Ghana begins its Group L World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Black Stars will then take on football powerhouse England on June 23 in Foxborough, Massachusetts before playing their final group game against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
