Mohamed Salah makes history in final Liverpool game

Mohamed Salah bowed out of Liverpool after breaking the assist record in the Reds’ 1-1 draw with Brentford on Sunday’s final game of the 2025/26 season. Salah  delivered a moment of brilliance, executing a flawless outside-of-the-boot pass to find Curtis Jones, who easily tapped it in to give Liverpool the lead.

This assist marked a historic milestone for the Egyptian star, who officially broke a long-standing club record that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard held. According to Opta, Salah now has 93 Premier League assists for Liverpool, one over Gerrard’s 92.

Salah impressed throughout the game, with 69 touches and an 84 percent passing accuracy, completing 32 of his 38 passes. He came close to scoring  when he curled a 19th-minute free-kick around the Brentford wall. However, his effort hit the post.

The Egyptian star received a roaring standing ovation after he was replaced by Jeremie Frimpong in the 74th minute. The game also marked  Andy Robertson’s final appearance at Anfield. Robertson was substituted in the 83rd minute but returned to the pitch alongside Salah for an emotional farewell to the fans.

Sunday’s Premier League final day result means Liverpool have secured the final spot for the Champions League after an underwhelming season. Brentford miss out from European qualification spot after finishing eighth in the league.

Meanwhile, Salah leaves Anfield with staggering accomplishments. The “Egyptian King” has made 442 appearances, scored 257 goals, Premier League titles, one Champions League title and multiple other titles for Liverpool. Furthermore, he won the Premier League Golden Boot four times, most recently netting 29 goals in the 2024-25 season.

Salah scored 12 goals, and provided 10 assists in 41 matches across all competitions further cementing his place as one of Liverpool’s all-time greatest players.
