As expected, Harry Kane, who also holds the record as England’s all-time top goalscorer (78), will captain the team. Other key players to the squad are Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze and goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Notable names that were left out of the squad include Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Alexander Trent Arnold (Real Madrid), Cole Palmer (Chelsea) and Phil Foden (Manchester City).
This will be England’s 17th World Cup. However, the Three Lions, who are undoubtedly one of the powerhouses in world football, have suffered a series of disappointments on the grandest stage. England has only managed to win one World Cup title in 1966 where the Three Lions beat Germany 4-2 after extra time to lift the trophy in London.
Since then, the closest England has been in winning the title was in 2018 when the team where eliminated by Croatia in the semi-finals. n 2022, they were eliminated by France in the quarter-finals after Kane failed to score an equaliser via a penalty.
Under Tuchel, the Three Lions will hope to finally bring the World Cup home, with their strong squad.
