Hearts stunned the home crowd in the 38th minute when Austrian defender Michael Steinwender rose to head in a goal. However, the Hoops responded almost immediately as Arne Engels stepped up and calmly converted a penalty in the 44th minute.

The second half was a Celtic affair as Japanese winger Daizen Maeda made it 2-1 in 58th minute to place Martin O’Neill’s men in the lead. Substitute Callum Osmand added a third goal in the 85th minute to seal the victory and hand the hosts their 56th league crown.

Iheanacho, who joined Celtic from Sevilla, played a key role in the title run. As a half time substitute for Sebastian Tounekti, Iheanacho hit a post, with 11 minutes to go. He added energy and experience up front as the Hoops made a dramatic comeback.

Asked how he felt about winning his first Scottish Premiership title, Iheanacho said to Sky Sports: “It feels good. It feels so good I can’t let go of this trophy.”

On how the atmosphere was like coming into the game, the Super Eagles star said: “It was a big tension and it’s a massive pressure. But we know what to do today and we did it. They [Hearts] were a very strong side. But God of soccer was on our side today.”

“It’s another silverware for me. I haven’t won a silverware for a while now. But I’m happy I won a silverware with this massive cup,” he added.

The 29-year-old has now scored eight goals in 23 appearances across all competitions this season. He helped Celtic finish the 2025/26 campaign with 82 points on the final league table.
