Michael Carrick set to be named Man Utd permanent boss

Michael Carrick has reportedly reached a broad agreement with Manchester United to become a permanent head coach of the team. Eduhintzus.com had earlier reported that Carrick got the endorsement of United’s hierarchy including director of football Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada, following his impressive feat in leading the club back into the Champions League.

Talks are reportedly underway, with all parties finalising the finer details of the contract, including Carrick’s backroom staff. According to Sky Sports, both parties could reach a full agreement before the final home game of the season, against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

Carrick took charge of the Red Devils on interim basis following Ruben Amorim’s exit earlier this year. In 15 games, the ex-United player, who won the league five times with the club, won 10 games, drew three and lost two. His wins include against Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Other names in the running for the United managerial job include Luis Enrique, Andoni Iraola, Unai Emery and Mauricio Pochettino. However, United reportedly settled for Carrick popularity with the playing squad, his handling of the media, his inherent understanding of the club’s culture.

Various reports suggest that the 44-year-old will be handed an initial two-year contract, with an option for a third. It also seems to look similar to Amorim’s 2.5-year contract in 2024.
