Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was born on February 12, 2001 at Tbilisi, Georgia. He is the son of former Georgian footballer Badri Kvaratskhelia, who played for FC Dinamo Tbilisi and the Azerbaijan national football team.

Early career

Kvaratskhelia began his football career at an early age. He joined his father’s former club Dinamo Tbilisi and went through the youth system to earn a senior career with the club at the age of 16. Kvaratskhelia went on to play briefly for Rustavi and Lokomotiv Moscow, where his talents soon gained attention across Europe.

Breakthrough at Rubin Kazan and Dinamo Batumi

On July 6, 2019, Kvaratskhelia signed a five-year contract with Russian club Rubin Kazan, where he won two consecutive Russian Premier League Best Young Player awards. In 2022, he returned to Georgia after his contract with Kazan was suspended due to the Russia-Ukraine war. He joined Dinamo Batumi, where he recorded another success. Kvaratskhelia  played 11 games, scored eight goals and provided two assists. He was named the Erovnuli Liga best player of the second round of the season.

Stardom at Napoli and PSG

By the time Kvaratskhelia joined Napoli, he was already regarded as one of the top wingers in Europe. He signed a five-year contract with the Serie A side in July 2022 for a reported fee of €10–12 million. In his debut season, Kvaratskhelia helped Napoli win their first Serie A title in 33 years and reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

He finished as the league’s top assist provider and won the MVP award. The Georgian winger went on to win the  Serie A Player of the Month four times – a record he shared with Roma’s Paulo Dybala, before leaving the club in January 2025.

In the same month, Ligue 1 giants PSG announced signing Kvaratskhelia on a contract until June 2029. He became the first Georgian player in the club’s history and was signed on a reported transfer fee of €80 million. At PSG, Kvaratskhelia won Coupe de France, becoming the first Georgian player to do so. He also scored a goal in the team’s 5-0 win against Inter Milan to help the club lift its first ever Champions League title.

Kvaratskhelia also helped PSG to the Club World Cup final where they lost to Chelsea and won the 2025 UEFA Super Cup after beating Tottenham Hotspur.

International career

Kvaratskhelia began his international football career with the Georgia under-17 national team. In May 2017, he was part of the team that won the UEFA Development Tournament. At the age of 16, Kvaratskhelia received call ups to join the under-19 and under-21 sides. During his youth football, he became the first winner of the newly introduced Alexsandre Chivadze award for his exploits at the under-17, and received a silver medal for his displays for Georgia’s under-19’s.

On June 7, 2019, Kvaratskhelia made his debut for the Georgia senior team in the Euro 2020 qualifier against Gibraltar. He was also a key player for Georgia at the UEFA EURO 2024, where he helped the team to the round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams. On March 24, 2026, Kvaratskhelia was named captain of the Georgia national team.

Unlike many football star, Kvaratskhelia reportedly prefers a simple and humble lifestyle. He reportedly still  uses his small bedroom in his childhood home at Tbilisi, where he disappears for hours whenever he comes home. Kvaratskhelia also enjoys gaming and traveling. He is a big fan of basketball and the NBA.

Kvaratskhelia has two brothers, including younger brother Tornike who also plays professional football. He married  Nitsa Tavadze, a Georgian medical university student in August 2023. The couple welcomed a son, Damiane on August 21, 2024 at Tbilisi.
