Manchester City 3-3 Everton: Will City’s draw cost them the EPL title?

Manchester City’s mission to snatch Arsenal’s Premier League title race suffered a huge blow in a last-minute draw at Everton. Jeremy Doku scored the opener to ignite City’s hope to close the gap on Arsenal. However, Pep Guardiola’s side conceded three times in 13 minutes –  through Thierno Barry’s brace and Jake O’Brien’s header.

Erling Haaland pulled one back for the Citizens, while Belgium winger Doku scored  stunning late leveller. Despite avoiding a loss, City lost ground to Arsenal who now top the table with 76 points.

City had earlier expressed their frustration over the tough fixture at Hill Dickinson Stadium. With City dropping two points, even Guardiola knows the title is no longer in their hands.

“It’s better than losing,” said Guardiola of the 3-3 draw. “It shows what type of team they are. [The title is] not in our hands. Before it was, now it’s not. We have games left. We will see what happens.”

Arsenal is now poised to win their remaining three matches and secure the title for the first time since the “invincible” days in 2004. Former Gunners striker and Premier League winner, Thierry Henry has warned the Gunners that they could not afford to drop points despite leading second-placed City with five points.

“I wouldn’t think about it that way if I was Arsenal, that we can afford to lose a game, but now it is back in your hands,” he told Sky Sports. “That’s a fact. It’s not in their (City’s) hands anymore,”

“I said before (the game) I can see Man City dropping points at Everton, like I am worried about the West Ham game (for Arsenal), so I am going to stay in my lane and not celebrate too early, because nothing is done.”

Manchester City now have one game in hand and it will be against Brentford on Saturday, May 9.
