Ghana to host 2027 U-20 AFCON without spending a penny – Kofi Adams reveals

Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has confirmed that Ghana will host the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, revealing that the country secured the rights without spending any money.

Ghana last staged the tournament in 1999, when the national U-20 side, the Black Satellites, won the title on home soil in memorable fashion.

The 2027 edition will also coincide with Ghana’s 70th independence anniversary, with the competition expected to form part of the national celebrations.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Adams said Ghana’s successful bid was achieved through the influence of John Dramani Mahama and the country’s strong reputation in African football.

“We have won the bid to host the U-20 AFCON, and we did not spend a penny,” he said.

Hosting the tournament is expected to provide a major boost to youth football development, improve sporting infrastructure, and generate economic opportunities across the country.

The Confederation of African Football is expected to work with the Ghana Football Association and a Local Organising Committee to ensure the successful delivery of the competition.

The hosting rights further reinforce Ghana’s standing as one of Africa’s leading football nations and a key centre for nurturing young talent on the continent.
