Casemiro: Man United teammate calls for Brazilian star to stay “one more year”

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season. However, his teammate  forward Matheus Cunha has called for the Brazilian superstar to extend his stay to one more year after his impressive display in a crucial 2-1 win over Brentford on Monday night.

Casemiro was named Player of the Match as United beat Brentford to edge closer to securing a Champions League spot. The 34-year-old scored United’s opener, nodding home from an acute angle after Harry Maguire had guided a header to the far post after 11 minutes.

Speaking after the game, United interim manager Michael Carrick told Sky Sports that “it’s still clear from both sides” that Casemiro would leave this summer but his teammate Cunha wanted him to stay.

Cunha also took to his Instagram story to post his celebration following the win against Brantford. The Brazil international, who missed the game due to injury, shared a photo of his compatriot, with the caption, “1 more year Casemiro.”

Benjamin Sesko scored the second goal from Bruno Fernandes’ assist three minutes before the break. Brentford’s Mathias Jensen scored pulled one back for his side with a thunderous effort three minutes from time. However, Keith Andrews’ side narrowly failed to get an equalizer as Mikkel Damsgaard’s late header went straight to United goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

United now have four games left to complete the quest to qualify for the Champions League next season. Meanwhile, Brentford’s hopes of securing European qualification for the first time suffered a blow as the Bees are now in their seventh winless run in all competitions.
