Alexander Djiku helps Spartak Moscow reach Russian Cup final after penalty shootout victory over Zenith

Ghana defender Alaxander Djiku converted from the spot to lead Spartak Moscow to victory in the Russian Cup semi-final against Zenith St Petersburg. 

Djiku started and lasted the entire duration as the game ended in a goalless stalemate, and had to be settled from 12 yards. The Reds won 6-7.

Spartak Moscow had the chance to win the game in regular time but Esequiel Omar Barco missed from the spot just before half time.

Meanwhile, the Ghana international and Cameroonian centre-back Christian Wooh formed a solid partnership to deny the attack of Zenith led by former Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran.

“Great win tonight. Proud of the team and the spirit we showed. These are the moments we live for, especially in derby games. Let’s keep going!” posted Djiku after the game.

Spartak Moscow will now face city rivals CSKA Moscow in the final of the competition.

Djiku has been a pivotal figure for Spartak since joining the club from Fenerbahce in the summer transfer window.

The Ghanaian is chasing his first ever career trophy.
