Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso believes new signing Morgan Rogers can quickly settle at Stamford Bridge and has revealed he already has a plan to pair the midfielder with Cole Palmer.
Rogers joined the Blues from Aston Villa last week in a club-record £117 million deal, becoming the most expensive British player in history.
The 24-year-old is currently on holiday after representing England at the FIFA World Cup and is yet to join Chelsea’s pre-season preparations in Australia.
Alonso confident of quick impact
Alonso said Chelsea targeted Rogers because of his ability to make an immediate difference.
“In that position we needed an important player and I’m sure there were not many better options than Morgan Rogers.”
The Spaniard believes the England international will adapt quickly to his new surroundings.
“You need players who can have that almost instant impact and I’m sure Morgan won’t need much time to adapt to the club, the system and his team-mates.”
Rogers has signed a six-year contract, with Chelsea holding the option to extend the deal by an additional year.

Alonso also expressed confidence that Rogers and fellow England international Cole Palmer can thrive together in the same team.
“I have a plan. I have an idea. I can see them linking really well.”
He added: “We need to have a good mix. If we get that balance right and those special players in the right positions, with good control, then we will be more competitive with and without the ball.”
Chelsea are also expected to complete the signing of Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix for £52 million as Alonso continues to reshape his squad.
The Blues have already recruited Geovany Quenda, Emmanuel Emegha and Marco Palestra during the transfer window, while midfielder Valentin Barco is also expected to arrive.
With nearly 40 players currently in the squad, Alonso acknowledged that further departures are likely before the transfer window closes.
