AC Milan have sacked head coach Massimiliano Allegri and the entire coaching team after they failed to secure a spot at next season’s Champions League. The club confirmed that chief executive officer Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada have all been sacked from their roles.
The ruthless move came after Milan suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cagliari which left the Rossoneri in fifth place, meaning they will play in the Europa League next season. This marks the second consecutive season AC Milan have failed to qualify for the Champions League after a four-season consistent run.
The Rossoneri were consistently in the top two of the Serie A table for most of the year. But their underwhelming performances late in the season forced them to settle for Europa, instead of sealing a spot at the Champions League.
“After the disappointment of last year, the mandate ownership set for the club was to return to the Champions League and to establish a foundation for winning consistently at the top of Serie A,” Milan said in a statement. “For the majority of this season, we were in the top two positions in Serie A, with a credible shot at competing for the Scudetto. The final stretch was completely inconsistent with the performance up to that point, with last night’s disappointing loss in the final game turning the season into an unequivocal failure.”

Despite an unsuccessful second stint at San Siro, Massimiliano Allegri is set to replace Antonio Conte as Napoli head coach. The 58-year-old native of Livorno boasts of an impressive resume, five Scudetti and five Coppa Italia titles from his legendary time at Juventus. He also won the Scudetti in his first spell at Milan in 2010/11 season but failed to replicate that magic for the club this season.
