Real Madrid have been embroiled in off-field controversies, with reports about altercations among star players making the headlines. The club is reportedly hoping that Mourinho, who shares a close relationship with Perez, could do what his former players had failed to do – bring stability back to the team.
The Portuguese first joined Los Blancos in 2010 following a historic treble at Inter Milan. In his first spell at Madrid, Mourinho led Real Madrid to the Copa del Rey title, beating arch-rivals Barcelona in the 2010/11 final.
