Man Utd to begin formal talks with Michael Carrick for permanent job

Manchester United are reportedly interested in retaining Michael Carrick as the team manager on a permanent basis. Carrick is regarded as favourite for the job since securing qualification for next season’s Champions League during his successful stint as the interim coach.

The United legend has won 10 of his 15 matches in charge, losing just twice, and guiding the team from seventh to the Champions League spot on the Premier League table. No Premier League club has won more points than United’s 33 since the 44-year-old became in charge following Ruben Amorim’s departure.

According to a report from Sky Sports, formal discussions are expected to begin before United’s final game at Brighton on May 24. United have been determined to hold a rigorous recruitment process but the club hierarchy eventually decided that Carrick is the right man for the job.

United players have also backed Carrick for the permanent manager role. Bruno Fernades, Casemiro, Amad Diallo, and Kobbie Mainoo have publicly endorsed the interim United manager for the permanent role. United chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox have also endorsed Carrick and will officially recommend his name to Sir Jim Ratcliffe this week, according to The Athletic.
