Man Utd have no plans to bring back Andre Onana to Old Trafford

Manchester United have reportedly decided against bringing back goalkeeper Andre Onana to the squad this summer. Onana is currently on a loan spell at Turkish league side Trabzonspor, and has expressed his desire to return to United and fight for his place in the team.

However, sources told ESPN that the English Premier League side are no longer interested in keeping the Cameroon goalkeeper next season. But they could face a significant financial hurdle in offloading the 30-year-old.

Andre Onana joined United in 2023 in a £44 million deal from Inter Milan and has made 102 appearances for the club. His stint at the club has been difficult, conceding 150 goals and keeping 24 clean sheets while winning one FA Cup. He joined Trabzonspor this season and was expected to return to Old Trafford next season, with his contract with the club expiring in 2028.

United could face some challenges for a club that could match his current earnings. His wages reduced after the club failed to qualify for Europe this season. However, United have booked a place at the Champions League next season, meaning that Onana’s age is expected to rise again in line with the rest of the squad.

Meanwhile, Altay Bayindir replaced Onana as a starting goalkeeper for United this season. He played six Premier League matches, but was subsequently benched and is expected to leave in the summer. United signed Senne Lammens from  Royal Antwerp in a €21m. Lammens claimed the starting role, making 30 league appearances and established himself as the undisputed first-choice keeper for the club.

However, United are reportedly looking to sign a new goalkeeper during the summer transfer window. With the Champions League ticket secured, the club is preparing to boost a squad capable of competing in Europe’s most prestigious club tournament.
