Transfer: Mourinho wants “full control” at Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho is considering a return to Real Madrid as head coach, but he has outlined certain conditions. The Benfica boss demanding total authority over first-team affairs.

According to reports from Esdiario and journalist Sergio Valentin, Madrid have intensified their pursuit of Mourinho after the club representatives met with the Portuguese tactician. Mourihno led the club to a record-breaking league title in 2012, which has made him Florentino Perez’s primary candidate to replace  Alvaro Arbeloa.

The 63-year-old is ready for a return, according to  Sky Sport, but has set non-negotiable terms regarding the club’s traditional hierarchy. He reportedly wants “full control and a major say in transfers” before committing to a contract that would end his current tenure at Benfica. Perez must now decide whether to grant these demands or not.

General Director Jose Angel Sanchez is reportedly the brain behind the pursuit for Mourinho’s signature. Real Madrid have fallen to despair in recent times, and are on course to end a second consecutive season without a silverware. Reports of a toxic atmosphere at the Valdebebas training ground, including physical violence among the senior players, have made headlines.

Madrid have identified Mourinho as a proven winner to stabilise and overhaul the team for a more rewarding campaign next season.
