‘Heartbroken’ Xavi Simons reacts to devastating season-ending injury

Tottenham star Xavi Simons will miss the rest of the season and 2026 World Cup after  rupturing his ACL and will undergo surgery. Simons suffered the injury during Spurs  1-0 win at Wolves on Saturday, the club’s first Premier League victory of 2026. The Dutch playmaker fell to the floor following a collision with Wolves defender Hugo Bueno in he 58th minute of the game. He attempted to continue but collapsed in front of Tottenham’s medical staff and subsequently left Molineux on a stretcher.

On Sunday evening, the 23-year-old took to Instagram to he would not be fit enough to feature in the Spurs’ final four league games of the season. He will also not be able to feature in this summer’s World Cup for the Netherlands.

“They say life can be cruel and today it feels that way. My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it,” Simon posted. “Honestly, I’m heartbroken. None of it makes sense. All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me, along with the World Cup.”

“Representing my country this summer…just gone. It’ll take time to find peace with this, but I’ll continue to be the best teammate I can be. I have no doubt that together we’ll win this fight.”

“I’ll walk this path now, guided by faith, with strength, with resilience, with belief, as I count down the days to getting back out there.
Be patient with me. TTP,” he added.

On Monday, Spurs confirmed the severity of Simons’ injury, saying he “will undergo surgery in the coming weeks” before beginning his rehabilitation with the club’s medical team. The £52m attacker’s injury adds another injury blow for Spurs, with  captain Cristian Romero and winger Mohammed Kudus already out for the rest of the season due to injuries.

With West Ham United two points ahead, Tottenham and Roberto De Zerbi will now look for other desperate efforts to avoid their first relegation in 49 years.
