A suspect has reportedly confessed to stealing cash and personal belongings from members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons after the team’s arrival in Morocco for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The incident occurred on Friday after the squad checked into the Marriott Hotel in Rabat, where they are staying for the group stage of the tournament.
Suspect arrested after players’ complaints
Several players, including Chiamaka Nnadozie, Esther Okoronkwo and Michelle Alozie, reported that money and personal belongings were missing from their rooms after arriving at the hotel.
The affected players also posted videos on social media warning others about the incident, with reports indicating that more than $1,000 was stolen.
According to veteran Nigerian sports journalist Obong Colin, Moroccan authorities have identified and arrested a suspect in connection with the theft.
The suspect has reportedly confessed to the crime and is expected to return the stolen items before facing prosecution.
Players turn attention to WAFCON
The reported breakthrough comes as a major relief for the Super Falcons ahead of their title defence at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The team had opened its training camp in Mohammedia on July 15 before relocating to Rabat for the tournament.
With the security concerns reportedly addressed, the players can now focus fully on their campaign as they seek to win a record-extending 11th continental title.
Nigeria will begin its Group C campaign against Malawi before taking on Zambia and Egypt in the remaining group-stage fixtures.
The Nigeria Football Federation has yet to issue an official statement on the reported arrest or the outcome of the investigation as at the time of publishing.
